Message from the President

HOW ABOUT THE AGENT NEXT TO YOU?

Is the special agent at the next desk a NAFA member? How about the one backing you up on a raid? You’ll never know.. .will you? That’s because membership in the National Association of Federal Agents Or.. .the one you have coffee with each morning?
is strictly confidential.. .period!!!

Membership confidentiality has been one of NAFA’s pillars since its founding more than 30 years ago. It has allowed NAFA and its predecessor, the National Association of Treasury Agents, to be.. .as someone said, “The only voice of truth in Federal law enforcement.” Of course, if that doesn’t interest you, please join that other organization which pretends to represent (and collects hefty dues from) thousands of your
peers. Trust me, being known as a member of THAT outfit won’t hurt your career one bit. NAFA.. .on the other hand ... is literally hated by wrong-headed, self-serving bureaucrats. We at NAFA kind of like that. In fact, we’re proud of that.

Membership confidentiality, however, has a down side. How does a “secret” organization recruit? Who would risk their career by attending a local NAFA meeting? Not many, I’m afraid. Who would risk their career by openly handing out NAFA literature? Only the few.. .the proud ... the (You know the rest.)! Who would commit career suicide by asking fellow agents if they belong? Not enough.

But ... this must be done. NAFA members must discretely reach out to fellow agents. That doesn’t mean you have to do that at your own agency or even in your own city. It might mean, for instance, that you discretely cany around a handful of NAFA newsletters on your official travels perhaps placing one or two in spots where special agents can chance upon them. I hate to mention this (blushing), but restrooms are
great distribution points. Please save your jokes!

I’m asking you to get involved; Contact NAFA HQ to receive extra copies of THE AGENT and discretely distribute them. You’ll be making a stand for integrity, real professionalism and freedom. It’ll feel good. Trust me.. .I’m with the government and I’m really here to help you.

Robert Sedgebeer
NAFA President
